The Carne Arms is OK for up to about 3 walkers' cars to park there at lunchtime but I guess any locals joining the walk would leave their cars at home.
Valeways is a registered charity working in partnership with the community to reopen existing footpaths to create a network of enjoyable circular walks across the Vale of Glamorgan, linking towns and villages to the surrounding countryside and points of interest. For more information please visit the website at www.valeways.org.uk. Alan Wilson

Tomato Bredie This is a fantastic stew that basically makes itself once you have it in the pot. It is of Cape Malay origin and seriously good in the depths of winter!
1kg of stewing lamb or beef
Enough seasoned flour to coat the meat
Vegetable oil and butter for frying
Garlic (to taste)
2 onions
A pinch each of dried oreganum, basil and thyme
6 tomatoes
2 tablespoons of tomato paste
A cup of stock
A glass of white wine
roll the meat in the seasoned flour and brown in batches in the oil and butter.
choose a pot that is suitable for slow cooking. You can make this recipe on the stove top or in the oven.
chop the onions, garlic, tomatoes and add to the meat.
add the herbs and tomato paste.
add the stock and the wine. Remember that the tomatoes are very juicy and add to the liquid during cooking. Don’t worry if the liquid doesn’t look as though it will be enough at the start of the recipe.
Give the meat a stir and leave it over a low heat for 3 or 4 hours at least or in a low oven (100 deg centigrade) for the rest of the day. I usually try and get it on by 11am for dinner that evening.
Serve with a starch of your choice. Cathy Bryant
Crime Prevention Advice Car crime can be a big worry for motorists. Protect your car by following our simple advice – it might just be enough to deter thieves from targeting your car.
Lock the doors and close the windows when you leave your car, however long you are leaving it for.
When parking at home, always use your garage if you have one and lock both your vehicle and your garage. If you do not have a garage, try and park in a well-lit area.
When parking outside, always try and park in an attended car park. Look for a public car park which is part of the police approved ‘Safer Parking Scheme’ and displays the Park Mark brand. Some car parks also have ‘Secure Car Park’ accreditation – look for the sign.
Don’t leave anything on display. Even an old coat or plastic bag can be tempting for a thief.

Llysworney News November 2009
St Tydfil’s Church Project Presentation Since earlier this year the project team has been meeting once a month and putting together ideas and a plan for the refurbishment of our Church. We are now at a stage, with the Architect, Kevin Sutton, to present to the village the first draft plan. Therefore, we invite you to see and discuss these plans in Church on Monday 30th November at 7.30pm. Do please come along. We look forward to seeing you. Melanie Hurst
Autumn Village Tidy Up We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible to help with the Autumn village tidy up on Sunday November 22nd at 11am. Please bring strimmers, brushes, spades, wheelbarrows etc. for a couple of hours. Melanie Hurst
Village Christmas Dinner To be held at The Carne Arms on Friday 18th December. Places can now be booked for this via your local committee newsletter distributor. Places are first come first served so book early. You will be asked to choose from the Christmas menu in advance. LCA
Children’s Xmas Party If you are a family with young or not so young children the Carne Arms is the place to be on Sunday 20th December from 5.30-7pm. There will be games and activities and a special visit from Father Christmas who has taken time off from his busy schedule to visit the village children and reward those who have been good! If you are new to the village and have never attended the event please ring either Dave Edwards (keeper of the sack) or Diane Bluck who have important messages for you from Father Christmas himself. There will be a small charge of £1 to pay for reindeer food and sweeties!
Operation Christmas Child A quick reminder that if you are filling a shoe box for an under privileged child (details in last month's newsletter or on the Samaritan's purse website-www.samaritan'spurse.uk.com) could you please give them to either Diane Bluck (Tudor Lodge) or Helen Sloane (Orchard Cottage) by November 20th. Thank you.
Christmas Messages Quite a few of us have decided that the money spent exchanging Christmas cards within the village could be sent instead to the Charities we support. It seems particularly relevant this year with many Charities struggling for donations due to the current financial climate. We thought we would put our Christmas messages in the December Newsletter. If you wish to do the same then could you email or telephone Bryn Miles by 25th November 2009. Tricia Turley & Melanie Hurst
Carols around the Pond This year the event will take place on Tuesday 22nd December. More details in the December newsletter. LCA
Llysworney Website We would like to thank the Carne Arms and Llysworney Garage for sponsoring our website and we continue to thank Bryn Miles for maintaining it. LCA
Computer Problems Recently I had a problem with my home network that I was unable to fix myself. I contacted RockIT, a company based in Bridgend. They came the next day and in no time had fixed the problem.
I was then contacted by Rob Dance, the owner of RockIT, and sent the following offer of computer support for the people of Llysworney:-
FREE Computer Support for the People of Llysworney. Local Business owner Rob Dance announces a unique computer support offer. RockIT have become recognised as the number one choice for a quick response to computer problems, a personal approach, reliability and affordability, and is now offering the people of Llysworney - FREE IT support.....
Why Are We Giving Away FREE IT Support? Some people think we are crazy for offering free services. They say, “Aren’t you afraid people will just take advantage of you?” The truth is, some people might – but we know that most are just honest people trying to find someone they can trust to fix and maintain their computers. That’s why we’re offering a FREE computer Health Check to review your computers performance, security and hardware.
For the people of Llysworney we’re also offering an EXTRA BENEFIT – we want to give you £20 off any of our services the first time you use RockIT and 10% off any of our laptops or desktops valid until Christmas 2009. We can help you in the following areas:
Computer running slow, Internet optimization, Laptop support, MAC support, Installations and upgrades, One to One tuition, Network setup and support, Internet security, Child Internet protection, Data backup and recovery, Supply of components laptops and desktop computers.
I’m sure that you can understand there’s a limit to the number of FREE Health Checks we can provide each month so call us now on 01656 767222 to reserve your place.
If anybody has had work carried out at home by anyone e.g. electrician, plumber etc, and would like to recommend them, then let me know and we can publish details in the newsletter. Bryn Miles
Crime Prevention Advice Something to think about…
Identity Theft
Identity theft is when somebody steals your name and other personal information to commit fraud. In cases of identity theft, your financial information is often stolen and transactions and purchases are made in your name.
Identity theft is a form of identity crime – where somebody uses a false identity to commit a crime. You may even be framed for a crime if you are a victim. Did you know identity fraud costs the UK economy an estimated £1.2bn a year? That’s £25 for every adult in Britain.
Identity theft can be an upsetting experience for the victim. It can be months before the fraudsters actions are discovered and it can take several months more to sort out the problems created as a result. Always think before you give away your personal details. Ask yourself the following questions…
Who exactly is asking for my details?
What details are they asking for?
Why do they need to know these details?
Fraudsters will possibly go through your rubbish to find your details. Dispose of documents with any personal information on them securely. A shredder is one of the most effective ways.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Sunday 11th October Village walk starting at 11am Don’t forget to join us for this very interesting walk with Paul, the Heritage Coast Warden. We look forward to seeing you in Southerndown car park at 11am. Any queries call Melanie.
Sunday 18th October Wine Tasting in the Carne Arms from 7.30pm The Village Association has arranged with Luke in the Carne Arms a special wine tasting with Luke’s Somellier Chris. Many of you will know Chris through the gourmet dinners that the Carne Arms has hosted in the past.
This is an opportunity to purchase some good wines for your Christmas celebrations. Committee Members will be coming around selling tickets for this event, but please ask for tickets in advance as this is a ‘limited numbers’ event. Ticket price is £15 which includes the wine tasting and some delicious nibbles provided by the Carne.
Sunday 22nd November Village Tidy Up starting at 11am At our last committee meeting it was agreed that the village was looking ‘unloved’ and in need of some TLC.
Some of you mat not know what a ‘Village Tidy Up’ involves. This is not just for a few committee members to get their hands dirty but an invitation to as many of you as possible to come out and tidy our village. For example there are a lot of weeds that need destroying outside most people’s properties and alongside kerbs. It is not only the pond area and play area that need attention but many other parts of the village too.
A large skip will be provided outside the Churchyard so we hope that many of you will come and give a hand. The more people that help, the quicker the job gets done! Let’s be proud of our village!

Saturday 23rd January Village Burns Night Details to follow nearer the time
The Community Association is also organising a guided trip to St Fagan’s early next year and a St. David’s Day Village Dinner. More details will follow nearer the time.
Harvest Meal Saturday 3rd October. St Tydfil’s Harvest meal will take place this year on Saturday 3rd October at Tudor Lodge (Bluck‘s home). The Harvest Family Service will take place on the following day on Sunday 4th October at 9.30am.
We are following the usual custom of a shared meal, whereupon everyone brings a savoury dish or a dessert, but this year as we are trying to raise funds for the church project we are asking for a small donation of £5 per person in order to help the cause. Children under 10 yrs of age are free. There will also be a raffle (any prizes gladly received!)
The Harvest meal will take place in the pool enclosure which is warm and comfortably seats 30-35 people. We will eat at 5.30pm, but people are invited from 4pm onwards to enjoy a swim in the heated pool if they so wish (optional)
If you would like to attend, could you please ring Diane so she can co-ordinate the food and keep a tally of the number of people. Alternatively, there is a list on the font in the church which you can sign.
The church is open on the Saturday morn (as it always is) so that people can bring Harvest gifts of fruit and veg to decorate the church for the Harvest Festival if they so wish.
Little Fish Fun Club The Little Fish Fun Club will meet on Wednesday 28th October from 10am to 1pm in Colwinston Village Hall. Cost £5 (£4 for sibling). If your child/children would like to attend could they please ring either Diane or Helen to secure a place. The Little Fish are again supporting Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, which involves filling a shoe box with small gifts which is sent to some of the world’s most disadvantaged children. If you would like to be involved in the project all you have to do is-
1. Find an empty shoe box and cover it in Christmas wrapping paper.
2. Decide if your gift is for a girl or boy aged - either 2 to 4yrs, 5 to 9yrs, or 10 to 14yrs. The labels can be downloaded from www.samaritanspurse.uk.com. Stick the label on the shoebox.
3. Fill your box with gifts. Samaritan’s purse suggests –
TOYS (something to love) soft toy, ball, finger puppet, trucks and cars, dolls etc.
EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES (something to do) pencils, pens, crayons, notepad etc.
HYGIENE ITEMS (something to use) Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, wrapped soap, flannel etc.
OTHER ITEMS (something to eat or wear) sweets (not chocolate) gloves, scarf, cap, hat, bangles etc.
4. Include a donation of £2 or more in a small envelope inside the box (or preferably pay online) to cover the cost of transport and secure the box with an elastic band.
5. Give your shoe box to either Diane Bluck (Tudor Lodge) or Helen Sloane (Orchard Cottage) who will take them to the nearest pick up point by the 20th NOVEMBER.
Details about the appeal can be found on the website www.samaritanspurse.uk.com as well as a list of what Not to send. DB
Colwinston & Llysworney WI The next meeting of the Colwinston & Llysworney WI will be held in Colwinston Village Hall at 7.30pm on Monday 12th October 2009. The subject will be an Ironmonger's Tale, speaker Victoria Price. Visitors are welcome. Hilary Sheldon
Village Inventory Many of you may not know that the LCA has, on behalf of the village, wine and beer glasses, crockery and cutlery as well as the two marquees and approximately 12 plastic chairs that we are happy to lend to anyone in return for a donation. Just contact a committee member. LCA
Golf League The golf League is under way with one game already played. The “Dream Team” (hot favourites before the start) were beaten by “AC/DC”.
Altogether there are twelve teams in the league. A reminder that all games are to be finished by 31st December 2009. LCA
Crime prevention advice Beware bogus callers. Bogus callers pretend to be officials from the council, engineers from gas, electricity or water companies, police officers or salespeople in order to gain access to people's homes and steal money or property. They usually carry fake identity cards and can seem very convincing.
How do I protect myself from bogus callers? If someone calls round at your home, it's best to take precautions: Put the chain on the door before answering it - if you rent your home and don't have a chain, ask your landlord to fit one for you. Ask to see identification. Check their identification isn't fake - ask which company they're from, then phone the company to check the caller is genuine. Look the company up in the phone book rather than using a number they give you. Ask a neighbour or friend to come round while the caller is there.

Llysworney News September 2009
The end of an era Following a brief but courageous battle with cancer sadly, on the 3rd August, John Sedgebeer of Keeper’s Cottage passed away.
John was a true village man and a colourful local character who was liked by all who met him.
In comparison with his long standing friends in the village I only knew John for a short period of time. However, I will still miss his wicked sense of humour and mischievous nature.
My thoughts are with Owen, his son, and his mother Mary, another village stalwart, who is currently in The Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.
His passing is not only a huge loss to all his friends but also the village of Llysworney which already seems duller without him. Rhodri The Barn
Church Project Progress Catharine Bray has agreed to join our team and we continue to meet monthly. We have already received a donation from outside Wales which has given us great encouragement.
We are now in the process of putting together a business plan and beginning discussions with our specialist Architect. Church Project Committee
Village Coastal Walk with Guide 11th October We have organised a walk with the Heritage Coast Warden on Sunday 11th October meeting in Southerndown beach car park at 11am.
Paul, our Guide is an expert on the heritage coast and these walks are always fascinating.
The walk is not too arduous and will last approximately 2 hours and suitable for all ages. Don’t miss this special experience.
There is no cost but a donation to the Heritage Coast organisation is always appreciated. LCA
Colwinston & LLysworney WI Colwinston & Llysworney WI are organising an evening with Terry Walton on Saturday 5th September in Colwinston Village Hall at 7.30 pm.

Crime Prevention Advice Fit locks and other security devices. Make sure that all the doors and windows to your property have adequate locks, and make sure you always lock up before you go out! Doors should be fitted with a five lever mortise lock and windows should fasten with a key, which must then be kept out of sight.
However, make sure everyone in your home knows where the keys are kept in case of an emergency such as a fire. Doors and door and window frames should be strong and in good condition, so they can't be broken easily. You could also consider fitting:
- a chain on the door
- a spy hole
- an alarm.
If you live in rented accommodation and don't feel the property is sufficiently secure, ask your landlord to fit new or additional locks.

Village Inventory We are currently putting together a village inventory. Is anybody out there who has anything belonging to the village that we should know about? LCA
Llysworney Gents Dining Club The club is ever popular with a goodly number attending on each occasion. During the year the Shampan and River View restaurants in Cowbridge were visited with great success. The Raj Kinara Indian restaurant at the Fontygary caravan park proved to be popular. The Thai Orchid and Zia Nina restaurants in Bridgend and the Greek evening at the Laleston Inn were all well received.
September sees the club at the Trio Brasserie restaurant in Cowbridge on the 7th. The Carne Arms has been arranged as the venue for November. October and December venues have yet to be decided. Other locations have already been approached and agreement has been reached. David Edwards

Llysworney News August 2009
Wet and Wonderful in the Paddock It couldn’t have been wetter if it tried, but did it stop the fun? Certainly not! Saturday July 11th was the Village Summer Event, with both of the village marquees erected in the Booth’s paddock; catering all in place, tables brilliantly laid, band on its way and the heavens duly opened.
How many villages could claim a summer event with a built-in water feature? The water cascaded between the two tents but the food, the drinks, the great band and the atmosphere were all brilliant. Dancing in wellies should be compulsory at village events from now on.
One extra excitement occurred when all the electrics to the band’s PA system suddenly stopped. No, it wasn’t the rain affecting them; it was the village’s oldest resident deciding she’d heard enough loudness and we should all go to bed, so she pulled out the extension lead plug. An ASBO is pending.
Fortunately, the sun actually shone on Sunday for the Great Llysworney Treasure Hunt and thanks to Peter and Janette Cole and Maria Martin and Jo Thomas for baffling everyone (of all ages) so brilliantly.
A final note that occurred by accident: the valiant team who met to disassemble and pack away the tents managed the task on the day that Nelson Mandela urged the world to spend 67 minutes (equivalent to his years struggling against apartheid) to do something for their community. So we did.
A big thank you to all those people who worked so hard to make the evening a success, committee members and non-committee members. Melanie LCA

Llysworney Golf League From August through to December there will be a village golf league.
The aim is to have teams of two people who will all play each other by the end of December on a “4 ball better ball” basis. Games will be played at the Bridgend 9 hole course on the A48.
The number of games will obviously depend on the number of teams entering. Dates and times of play will be arranged between the teams. If individuals want to play but have no partner (like me!) please put your name down and I will organise a partner.
The entry list will be posted in the Carne Arms from Saturday 1st August and will close on Saturday 15th August. The league results will be in the newsletter and in the Carne Arms.
An enormous trophy and prizes will go to the winning team.
Any queries then please contact me. Gordon Turley
A little reminder from your neighbourhood policing team Our PACT meeting at Ewenny Village Hall on Wednesday 19th August at 19:00hrs. All welcome.
Crime prevention advice Keep valuable items out of sight.
Try not to leave valuable items in places where they can easily be seen from outside.
You could also consider marking valuable items with an ultra-violet pen, so they can be identified if they are stolen.
Take photographs of items that can't be marked such as jewellery or antiques.
Think about what's outside
Never leave a key hidden outside your home (e.g. under a doormat).
Always lock sheds and garages.
Always put ladders or tools away - they could be used by an intruder.
Don't leave packaging for new appliances and goods outside your home. Always crush it and put it in the bin.

Rev. Peter Leonard Jeremy Rawlins Penny Snowden Diane Bluck Peter Cole Paul Booth Martyn & Melanie Hurst
We are currently working on a draft business plan and exploring sources of potential funding. By the Autumn we hope to be in a position to make a presentation to the village.
Your Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to invite you to… Our PACT meeting at 7pm on Wednesday 19th August at Ewenny Village Hall. Please come along if you have any issues or questions or even just come along to meet us.
Just because we are having the meeting at Ewenny Village Hall doesn’t mean only people from that village can attend. The meeting is for anyone from the Llandow/ Ewenny ward. Hope to see you there.
Crime prevention advice: Yard security: If you’re working in the front yard, lock the back door and garage. If you're working in the back yard, lock the front door and garage.
Don't keep ladders or other equipment in the yard that could be used to gain access to your home.
Keep shrubs, bushes, hedges, and fences to a height of three feet or less.
Solid fences can prevent neighbours from watching out for each other. Consider chain link or picket type fencing.
Residential lighting should be used to light up home entry points. Motion detector lights are an inexpensive deterrent for areas where continuous lighting is unnecessary.

Llysworney News June 2009
Llandow Community Council News Llandow Community Council (LCC) serves Llysworney, Llandow and Sigingstone mainly acting as the “link” between the villages and the Vale Council.
We raise matters concerning individuals and groups and generally attempt to keep the villages’ interests in front of the appropriate officers and Vale Councillors. It is voluntary, unpaid, and Llysworney has four local councillors: Stewart Murton, Steve Huish, Janette Shaw and Martyn Hurst.
Apart from keeping a close watch on planning applications affecting the villages, current topics that are being actively pursued include lobbying for a speed limit on the Cowbridge-Llantwit Major road going past Pen yr Heol Terrace, the poor standard of grass cutting, improving the state of the triangle at the northern entrance to the village and, of course, the continuing problem of the traffic going through Llysworney.
The Vale has a strangely ambiguous attitude towards the road issue: they acknowledge our road is inappropriate for heavy Goods traffic, yet they have a sign on the A48 at Pentre Meyrick directing lorries our way! A Llysworney Bypass has been in their Structure Plan ever since the “Vale” was created out of the old South Glamorgan Council, yet there is never any money to fund it. Rest assured, your LCC representatives never stop nagging! Martyn Hurst

Heaven Sent Opportunity? - The Rector responds I was not able to be at the annual meeting of the Village Association so take this opportunity to endorse the presentation made there by Jeremy Rawlins – one of our parish wardens.
When I came to the parish in 1996 there was a scheme on the stocks and ready to be launched for the major refurbishment of the church. This included visible works and those equally necessary but invisible items – such as the electricity supply.
That work was funded in large part by the proceeds of the sale of the old school house. That generation of churchgoers were fortunate in having a ready source of funding available. As I remember there was no need to find grant aid to do the work as the resources were available within the parish.
The current generation of villagers is challenged to build on the work of our immediate forbears and move the building forward as a community resource and meeting place as well as a place of welcome for the visitor and an ongoing place of worship, taking sustenance from a millennium of Christian presence at the heart of our community. We are fortunate that the residue of the school house funds have been kept safe in the intervening years and could now form the basis for a new funding effort.
I appreciate the reference in the report to the village AGM that the Church in Wales is not a wealthy organisation. That is indeed the case. When the Church in Wales was disestablished in 1920 most of its ancient endowments and assets were stripped from it. The history of the Church in Wales in the 20th century is one of trying to shake off the ‘poor cousin to the C of E’ condition that was the consequence of our impoverishment. It speaks volumes of the faithfulness and generosity of churchgoers that such a vital presence has been maintained the length and breadth of our country.
The financial resources of the Church in Wales are largely deployed in maintaining clergy throughout Wales, paying them, housing them, and providing for them in retirement. It is a huge commitment but one that it honours.
There are scant resources for looking after old buildings but such is the nature of Wales that it is the fact that many of the best listed buildings in the country are owned and looked after by the Church. It is therefore down to the current generation of worshippers to shoulder the burden of caring for our churches. I have laboured this point because time and again you hear the pejorative remark that ‘the Church has lots of money’. That is not the case as an examination of our published accounts will reveal.
Our present lovely church building is, and should continue to be, a place of inspiration and a guardian of aspiration for our community. It is already available for use by the community and it is freely available. It is open every day during daylight hours and I hope people feel that they can use it for quiet contemplation. It is however limited in its use by its lack of facilities. Toilet facilities are a real need to make the building more usable.
I therefore support this scheme to see what we can do with St Tydfil’s. It is at an early and tentative stage at the moment but holds great promise. I am delighted that leading members of our village community, not necessarily church-goers, have indicated a willingness to get involved in this exciting project.
I particularly welcome the transparency with which these early stages are being explored. That should continue to be the case as the project advances. May I urge that the project should be a subject for the prayers of all those who value our village and our life together in community. Peter Leonard
Calling all treasure seekers After a night of feasting and fun, get your brain back into gear, follow the clues and discover places and features in the village you never knew before. Teams of up to 4 are welcome to take part. The Treasure Hunt will start at 11.30am so that the impromptu spontaneous barbecue can get underway from 1.30 onwards.

Llysworney News May 2009
Thank you to the Neighbourhood policing team We recently experienced a problem with vandalism when my daughter’s car was broken into on the yard. Two doors were twisted in an attempt to get in to the car, the driver’s door lock was punched out, a window broken, the ignition tampered with, and the steering wheel cowling removed, in an attempt to steal the car. This happened late one evening in the half term break. Luckily, the car was not stolen as it had an immobiliser.
This was unexpected in our sleepy village, and is a salutary reminder that we need to be alert to the possibility that we are all at risk from opportunist thieves. As a result, and having heard of other recent instances of vandalism and theft in the village, we asked the neighbourhood policing team to visit, to highlight areas around the house that needed more protection.
Advice included putting locks on all outhouses, additional locks with alarms on even the smallest of windows, upgrading door locks, upgrading the CCTV system, and most importantly being alert to, and suspicious of, unknown visitors to the village.
Matt Woodman and Steve Thomas our PCSOs, made a thorough check around the house and gardens, and left us with a checklist of improvements to carry out. We were also given a property marking kit, so that if our valuables were stolen in the future, there would be a better chance of recovering them.
With the Easter and Summer holidays approaching, I would encourage other residents to make use of our PCSOs and arrange to have your own Home Security check. Also be vigilant and take note of strangers in the village. Liz Rees Sydney House Farm
Neighbourhood Policing Team It is now official, PCSO Steven Thomas (myself) is now the PCSO for the ward and he will be working along side PC Robin Mellor.
Crime prevention advice; With the few odd days of sunshine we have had some of you might be planning to go on holiday. If this is the case then my advice would be only tell those who need to know. We all know how fast news can travel. Also let family and neighbours know you are going so that they can keep an eye on your property.

My hiking boots are now well and truly hung up and I plan on doing some serious relaxing for the rest of the year! Thanks once again. Jess Rees

Sponsorship Hi Everyone. On 8th January I'm off to Tanzania for 8 weeks to do some volunteer work at a primary school in the foothills of Kilimanjaro. Whilst there I will be climbing the mountain (Kilimanjaro) to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research.
If anyone would like to sponsor me or make a donation I would be really grateful. My trip is totally self-funded so every penny will go directly to the charity. I have set up a fundraising page www.donatetobreastcancer.org/jessrees1 or you can E-mail me directly jessrees@btinternet.com.
Thanks for your support and Happy New Year to you all. Jess Rees (Sidney Farm House)
History Talk at Nash Manor A very enjoyable evening was had by the 46 villagers who attended the History Eve on Wednesday November 26th at Nash Manor, the home of Jen and Eric Williams.
The evening began with a welcoming glass of wine and a chance to soak in the atmosphere of the house and view the array of photographs and information on the various display stands.
Local Historian, David Francis, then gave an interesting, selective 400yr history of the colourful Carne family and their many links with Llysworney and the local surrounding area.
This was followed by a talk from Jennifer Williams, one of the present owners, who has recently completed a large restoration of part of the building. Jen described and illustrated, with the aid of a flip chart, how the Manor had been extended and developed since pre Tudor times to the present day.
Although the November night was cold and wet outside, the warming wine and roaring fires, combined with the interesting talks of the two speakers made the evening a memorable one.
The LCA wish to extend their thanks to both Mr David Francis and Jennifer Williams for their enthusiastic and informative talks and to both Eric and Jennifer for their warm hospitality. Diane Bluck

Crime prevention advice over the Christmas period As we know, Christmas is a time for parties, family gatherings, relaxation, too much food and presents. However whilst the majority of us will enjoy the festivities without any hiccups, there are still a few precautionary measures that we can all take to ensure we don’t fall victim to crime:
When out shopping, ensure that all bags, parcels, etc are secured away in the boot or similar location – remember “out of sight, out of mind”.
Ensure all doors and windows at home are closed and locked/secure when going out.
Consider using a light timer if you are going away for the holiday. This way, it will give the impression that you are still there.
If you are going away, let a neighbour, friend or family member know so they can keep an eye on your house. Whilst you’re away, also make sure you cancel any regular deliveries, e.g. milk, so that it gives the impression that you are still there.
By taking some simple steps, you can reduce the chance of being a victim of crime. If you need any further information or advice, please do not hesitate to contact us:
