The Carne Arms

Dating back over 400 years the Carne Arms is a delightful old inn with open fires and a friendly, cosy ambiance. Thought to have originally been part of the local Rectory it’s name is ancient and is derived from the Cornish “Carn” which means “rock.” However, in this instance, the inn probably received its name in memory of a wealthy and influential local family rather than from any feature of the local landscape.

Situated beside the main road through the village this historic inn is easy to spot and well worth finding. It has recently been taken over by a father and son team who are welcoming hosts. It offers an excellent choice of beers and ales. People from the village meet at the pub.

The pub also boasts a restaurant with an appealing home cooked menu of local and traditional dishes, along with bar meals for those who want a lighter bite. Amongst the seasonal favourites are Dover Sole. There are also curry nights held where there is an excellent choice of over ten different curry dishes.

You will need to book well in advance. It is also advisable to book for Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday Lunch. This is definitely the place for the whole family, with a large beer garden and safe play area at the rear.
