Because the village of Llysworney no longer has its own schools the children go to St. David’s Church in Wales Primary School for their primary education and Cowbridge Comprehensive School for secondary education. Both schools feature strongly in the top sector of national educational league tables.
St. David’s Church in Wales Primary School Colwinston The ancient village of Colwinston lies two miles from Llysworney on the Western edge of the Vale of Glamorgan. The new school, which opened in 1970, replaced three former school which closed at that time. It serves the three villages of Llysworney, Llandow, and Colwinston itself and is a feeder school for Cowbridge Comprehensive school.
Today there are approximately 120 children attending the school. Because it is a Church in Wales school there is a close association with St. Michael’s and the rector. The rector is also a governor of the school and a frequent visitor to speak to the children. “The Friends of St. David’s” constitute a PTA of exceptional enterprise. One of their many fund raising achievements have enabled the school to finance new classrooms.
The children from Llysworney are able to travel to the school in the school bus. The bus collects and returns the children to the village. The school plays an active part in community life and arranges a wide range of events including the Summer Ball and end of year BBQ’s.
